Two places, one Street: Wicks & Whiskers and Daniland

David Snelling · 2 min read

The first two places on Soulcraft Street could not be more different, which is rather the point.

Wicks & Whiskers, Charlotte

Wicks & Whiskers is a candle-making studio and a kitten rescue lounge under one roof. A visit goes like this: pick your scent, pick your jar, pour your candle, and while it sets, play with the kittens. The kittens are fosters looking for homes, and more than a few guests have left with one; adoptions run through the studio's own site. Every visit becomes a keepsake page for the guest, with their photos, the candle they poured and the kittens they met, made to be shared. Ron and Kristine run it, and their motto is their own: get lit and licked.

Daniland

Daniland is Dani May Red's own magazine: modelling, music, fashion and causes, every issue as a cover. It is also her studio and her stage. Readers follow the issues and her live shows from the site; the shop carries prints and stickers of her pictures; and anyone who wants to work with her books the job from the same place, with the terms clear before the day. Daniland is an online brand with a national audience, published from wherever the work is.

Why they are on the Street together

Both run on Soulcraft, which means both publish from their own site and their news reaches the Street, the Press Room and the social networks without a second tool. On the Street you can follow either, or both, and see what is new at each the moment it is posted. A studio in Charlotte and a magazine with no fixed address: the Street is wide enough for both.
