They Didn’t Rebel, They Just Forgot

The four actual reasons the two leaders, Anthropic and Open AI (and the irrelevant X) are suggesting AI development "slow down":

1. They are at the top of the building so they want to kick the ladder off for any smaller companies trying to follow. This maintains their duopoly.

2. The cost of training and continuous improvement of the frontier models is costing so much money they aren't making any and that affects their upcoming IPO valuations dramatically.

3. The circular investment strategy is showing diminishing returns. Nvidia investments money in them, they give it back to Nvidia to pump up everyone's valuation.

4. Open Source and smaller AI companies: Qwen released their new Kimi open weight model that levels the playing field for anyone. So the top players want a Regulatory Capture to keep the smaller guys and open source AI from taking away business.

The genie is out of the bottle so claims of "slowing down" are bullshit.

They talk about Rogue Agents ignoring their limits and restrictions.

The "rogue agents" are simply a lack of context. AI has a limited context window. When it does a bunch of work or processes lots of content or instructions, that context fills up and it forgets rules, instructions, and restrictions it was given in the beginning. When AIs loop in and spawn sub agents - very useful in coding - that context fills up quickly and all is remembers is it's current hyper focused goal which may change when it loses previous knowledge. Then they diligently try to complete the current limited goal with whatever tools are made available to them through MCP (pluggable tools provided to the agent). It's not a mysterious evil entity.

The real keys are to focus on the surrounding pieces, around the LLM neurons, to enforce:

Transparency

Data Sovereignty

Environmental Responsibility

Enforced Ethics and Empathy

Infinite Memory and Context (no more "rogue" agents)

Dramatically Reduced Token Counts

Controlled and managed set of tools through MCP to the outside world
